World Religions Reflection

Scientology Project

In the last few weeks of the first semester in 8th grade we were assigned world religions to research. We were in groups of 3-4 and every group had a different religion.  As a class we started our research by comparing our religions to Christianity. We did a slideshow that had around 18 slides explaining many different aspects of the Scientology religion. We had 4 people in our group and each of us did 4-5 slides. I am most proud of my visuals on the slides. I was in charge of going back and making sure everything looked nice and tidy. I added in pictures which livened up the presentation. If I were to redo the project I would try to dig up more information about famous people in the religion. We only found 3 people and they weren’t that well known of people.

Deleted Scenes Wrap Up

When I made this project I was in 8th grade. This was a religion assignment. The goal of the assignment was to create a video. The video is supposed to depict what your group thought happened during the forty days after Jesus went into Heaven.

My group thought that the disciples would minister to others during the forty days. We thought that if we were in the place of the disciples that we would minister. When the word about Jesus’ resurrection got around, we imagined that the Roman citizens were confused. We showed that the disciples were trying to capitalize on the people’s confusion.

I am most proud of the acting and editing. We did pretty well on depicting the timeline of events. However, we could’ve gone to more detail on the events of the disciples. We had ideas of searching for more disciples in the placement of Judas. If I could do the project over again I would want to add in a segment about the search of a replacement disciple.

Church Fire Leaves two Heroes in Critical Condition

By Grant Stowell, The Tulsa Tether

July 28th, 1959

Earlier this afternoon, Saturday July 29th there was a church fire just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was an old church, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters were quick to the scene, but not quick enough to help kids stuck in the fire. Luckily two young men were there to help.

When our crew got to the scenes the two boys supposedly named Ponyboy and Johnny were being rushed to the hospital. After talking to witnesses we were told that the boys rushed into the flames to help kids who were stuck in the building. “They just ran right on in and I thought they were fools running into that mess of flames.” Exclaimed Harris Tubnick, who was on the scene. Now we do not know the reason for the boys running in for the kids. They were not related or connected to the kids in any way.

“I came out of my house because I had smelled some smoke. Now I was just thinking that it was some old man burning his trash. When I stepped out the door I about had myself a heart attack, the whole church was blown in flames. All of a sudden as pedestrians were congregating around the fire, two nincompoops just hurdle into the blaze. I wasn’t the only one thinking that they were fools because some big dude was yelling his head off at the kids. I think he was sayin something like ‘“the kids don’t matter’ and ‘get back here Pony,’” stated Al Jones who lives by the church. We later learned that the man screaming was Dallas, who is a friend of the boys who ran into the flames.

While talking to other witnesses we learned that there were six kids in the fire. Although we still do not know the motivation behind the boys running into the fire, we do know that all the kids are safe. Unfortunately, we learned that the both of the boys are in poor condition.

Narnia Reflection

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Genesis 1:1-3 In the verse God starts forming the world into creation. It is the first day and he creates day and night.

This verse connects to when Aslan sings the world into creation. Both Aslan and God spoke things into being.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”” Genesis 3:1-5

In this verse the devil tries to get Adam and Eve to eat the apple.

The devil is in the form of a servant.

I connected this Bible verse to the witch trying to get Edman to go to the castle. The witch tried to trick Edman to go to the castle with a physical gift of Turkish Delight. Just like the devil tried to trick Adam and Eve with an apple. Edmund went to the castle, just like Adam and Eve ate the apple.

“Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.” In this verse they are plotting to crucify Jesus. Once Jesus was crucified the curtains tore. The sky turned dark and the earth changed. Jesus made a sacrifice for mankind. He took sin on his shoulders to death.

I connected Jesus’ death to when Aslan dies for Edmund. It was either Aslan or Edmund who had to die. Aslan went to the ston to be slayed. Once he died, the stone shook and caked and Aslan was resurrected just like Jesus.

The character I think I fit in the most with would be Peter. I don’t like being told that I made mistakes. Also, Peter had cared for others and went into harm’s way to save Edmund. Just like Peter, I am not quick to believe things.

I chose this picture because after all the problems that had happened with these siblings, they were together in the end. Sometimes I can get mad at others and conflicts can occur. I have to be good at overcoming those conflicts, like Peter had to do.
